MITTIMITTI
MittiMitti is one of the smaller U3O8 Energy concessions in Chile, with three concessions covering a total land mass of 900 hectares, being 9 square kilometres. The concessions cover an area upstream of two south draining creeks, of which stream sediment samples returned highly anomalous radiometrics of between 150 – 174 counts per second. A sample taken from the main stream returned a weakly anomalous radiometric response. The hills upstream of these anomalies are known to contain high levels of hematite spectral responses, but no unusually high sericite responses.
Location And Accessibility
The MittiMitti concessions are located 20 kilometres north of the city of Angol and 15 kilometres to the south of the town of Nacimiento. A good system of primary roads, connecting the city of Concepcion and Angol passes to the east of the project, which is skirted by secondary roads.
Topography, Vegetation and Climate
The exploration concessions overlie rolling hills ranging in elevation from 200 to 400 metres. They are drained by local streams that ultimately reach the River Vergara, a tributary of the Bio Bio River. The district is dominated by a logging industry, which results in a patchwork of clear-cut and reforested areas, as seen in the photograph below. The climate is moderate due to the effect of the ocean, whilst rain is a common occurrence, particularly in winter.
District Geology
The MittiMitti area is mapped as being underlain by undifferentiated granitoids of the Coastal Batholith. Within this area are the favourable peraluminous granites. The SERNAGEOMIN mapping shows areas of Devonian to Carboniferous meta-sediments within the batholith. These are possibly roof pendants, which may indicate that the intrusives in this area formed at a high level in the batholith and could therefore be good potential hosts for hydrothermal systems. |
